IR Blog Post 3

While in India, Sarah talks to somebody who predicts her future, and while originally she wanted nothing to do with India; he tells her that India is part of her future. She makes a comment that someone who is professionally supposed to be able to analyze people, was not able to correctly predict her future as much as someone who she doesn't know who she just saw along the side of the road

In the book, there is an earthquake; and many people die. Sarah is really shocked about the fact that too these people the earthquake really isn't that big of a deal. The people in India are used to people dying because of poverty, earthquakes and other reasons. But Sarah is so shocked because this isn't something that she is used to. She walks around surprised. Just like in the Motorcycle diaries, these shocking experiences can change someone's perception and make there experience not as much of a good experience as they were hoping.

One of the main themes of this section is about the characters transitioning in the trip. one of the most obvious changes is when the main character starts losing her hair. In indian culture hair is a very important part of a womans life. It is something that distinguishes them from other women. At age one, indian children get their head shaved and then it grows back in." A hair is woman's glory,(83)" I chose this passage mainly because it directly shows how people feel about hair and what it means to them." I snort every morning but my hair falls faster." Sarah goes to somebody who tells her the remedy for her hair falling out, and she takes their advice.

RAFT CHILE

Dear Che,

So far it looks like you have learned some lessons during this journey. As you go further and further in the journey, you are realizing that everything isn't a fun experience and when travelling somewhere different, that is not your home; it only takes but so long to realize what it is like for the people that live there. The old woman who is sick, is only one example of many people out there in Chile who don't get the medical attention and care that they deserve. As a bystander, for you to help the people in need is a good deed, and hopefully won't go unrewarded.

Sincerely Sierra

This article is about traveling from one place and finding other places to go. this directly connects to the novel because when traveling you never know where you are going to end up. Alot of things arent planned, you might start some where and end up some where else.

The Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world and it is located south of New Dehli, which is the current setting of the novel. In alot of love stories that take place in India, the taj mahal can be a very important part. The fact that the main character said that she would never come back to india, and is now in india, shows that this was meant to be and there will be many interesting things that will happen.

Holy Cow An Indian Adventure By : Sarah Macdonald

" Ive always thought it hilarious that Indian people chose the most boring, domesticated, compliant and stupid animal on earth to adore, but already I'm seeing cows in a whole different light. These animals clearly know they rule and they like to mess with our heads.(11)"

I chose this passage because it seems like something that will be really important to the book later on. This is a very symbolic factor and so it will play a big part of the novel. In general, animals are very important to the indian culture and they are also very important in terms of symbolism in books. This quote also represents how she doesnt fully understand the culture in which she is traveling among, and probably by the end of the novel, she will have a greater appreciating for everything that she has experienced.

I expect there to be alot of personal emotions and opinions displayed. I expect it to be very emotional because when traveling , there are some times when people are very close to death and that is when people would be most likely to express their feelings.

Some major issues i expect to read about are the obstacles that one might face when traveling. Getting from one place to another might also become an issue. The people that the main character will meet, will influence his trip and i expect to read about that as well.

It will differ from the previous books that I read because this book will probably have more risk factors and more unknown things that I will not expect to happen.

180' south reflection

" The best journeys answer questions that in the beginning you didn't even think to answer."
In my own life this quote relates a lot to my life. If you ask alot of questions sometimes you don't get the right answers because you are so occupied with getting the answers to questions. You miss the important things you can learn that are right in front of your face.
